The Welwyn Hatfield Labour Party is welcoming the brand new investment from the Labour Government designed to unlock 200,000 jobs and apprenticeships for our next generation.
This major youth employment drive marks a decisive turning point for our community following years of rising youth unemployment under the previous Tory administrations, where the number of young people neither earning nor learning rose by 37% between 2021 and 2024.
Local members in Welwyn Hatfield are welcoming these new policies announced by Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden:

Hiring Incentives: If a business hires a 16 to 24 year old who has been out of work for 6 months+, the Labour Government will pay that business a £3,000 incentive.

Direct Support: If a young person is under 24 and has been unemployed for 18 months, the government will directly step in and pay the cost of a 6 month work placement.

SME Apprenticeships: Any small or medium enterprise that takes on an apprentice aged 16 to 24 will be given £2,000 to reward investment in young people.

Expanded Jobs Guarantee: The Jobs Guarantee now covers everyone aged 18 to 24 (previously 18-21), ensuring no young person in Welwyn Hatfield is left behind.

New Foundation Roles: Introduction of foundation apprenticeships in vital sectors like hospitality and retail to support 16 to 21 year olds into work.
This announcement is a clear demonstration of Labour’s commitment to delivering for young people, backed by an additional £1bn, taking the total to £2.5bn. This major investment in the Youth Guarantee and the Growth and Skills Levy over the next three years, shows Labour is serious about fixing the problem, ensuring that school and college leavers in Welwyn Hatfield have a direct route into a good career.
