Welwyn Hatfield will receive a substantial uplift in funding through the Labour Government’s new Local Government Finance Settlement, which allocates central government support for council services in England. The Settlement will move to a multi-year structure for 2026 to 2029, giving councils greater certainty for planning and investment.

Early figures show that Welwyn Hatfield is set to gain significantly under the Fair Funding Formula, which replaces the previous Conservative settlement. The revised approach considers local pressures more accurately, including higher housing costs and the contrasting levels of need across the borough.

Andrew Lewin MP for Welwyn Hatfield welcomed the announcement in Parliament, stating: “Welwyn Hatfield is a winner in the new Local Government Settlement”. Core spending power is projected to rise by 25 percent, giving the council additional resources to support essential and community services.

Provisional allocations will be open for consultation before final confirmation in each year of the multi-year Settlement.
