Northdown Road Surgery in it
Northdown Road Surgery in it's present form.
  • Funding has been secured for a new fully accessible GP surgery at Ridge House in Hatfield, replacing the outdated Northdown Road branch and enabling up to 12,000 additional appointments annually to meet rising local demand and reduce waiting times.
  • The new premises will offer three modern clinic rooms and form part of the wider £45 million High View regeneration project delivered by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and Lovell Homes.
  • Along with local councillors, Andrew Lewin MP lobbied the ICB to ensure the project moved forward and deliver on the Labour government’s commitment to reduce NHS waiting lists and expand Hatfield’s access to primary care services.

Andrew Lewin, MP for Welwyn Hatfield, said:

“I am very pleased to say that a new GP surgery will be opening at Ridge House in Hatfield. It’s a relocation for the GP currently at Northdown Road branch, but it’s also an expansion – with 12,000 extra appointments to be delivered every year for local patients. The brand new surgery will have three clinic rooms, rather than the existing one, with much improved facilities.

I pushed to get this over the line, but this has been a community effort. Thank you to everyone who has been involved, including Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, the leadership of the NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Lovell, the developer.

A modern and improved NHS had to start with first class GP care and I am delighted that thousands of patients in Hatfield will soon experience the benefit.”
