The Labour government has granted modernisation funding to Lister House GP
- Lister House GP surgery in Hatfield has been announced as one of 1000 GP surgeries across the country to benefit from funding aiming to modernise practices.
- The announcement includes 30 GPs across the NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex ICB also receiving funding.
- The fund will provide new capital funding of £102 million in 25/26 to support improvements in the primary care estate, including enhancing existing infrastructure, creating additional capacity for GP workforce, and by enabling additional patient appointments.
- Projects will be delivered during the 2025-26 financial year, with the first upgrades expected to begin in summer 2025.
Andrew Lewin, MP for Welwyn Hatfield, said:
“On my recent visit to Lister House I was pleased to meet GPs working hard to provide care for Hatfield residents. It’s fantastic that the practice will receive funding to improve the premises and that our community in Hatfield will see the benefits of capital funding.
Nationally, this fund is part of the larger aim to move care out of hospitals into the community. Properly supporting local GPs is crucial to meeting that aim.
The government has injected £102m into this fund, the biggest public investment in GP facilities for five years. It will create space for GPs to see more patients, boost productivity and improve care for patients across the country.”
Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting, said:
“It will be a long road, but this government is putting in the work to fix our NHS and make it fit for the future.
“These are simple fixes for our GP surgeries but for too long they were left to ruin, allowing waiting lists to build and stopping doctors treating more patients.
“It is only because of the necessary decisions we took in the Budget that we are able to invest in GP surgeries, start tackling the 8am scramble and deliver better services for patients. The extra investment and reform this government is making, as part of its Plan for Change, will transform our NHS so it can once again be there for you when you need it.”
