Following the recent local election results in which Labour became the biggest party on the local Council, Welwyn Hatfield Labour is excited to announce that Councillor Max Holloway has been elected Leader of the Labour Group, with Councillor Rose Grewal elected as Deputy Group Leader.

Councillor Max Holloway is due to be elected as Leader of the Council next week.

Former Leader of the Labour Group Councillor Lynn Chesterman said:

‘I’m so pleased to see such a fantastic set of results for Labour at this year’s local elections. People are turning to us in Welwyn Hatfield to deliver the changes our community needs.

As Deputy Leader of the Council I have seen the real difference that community organisations and charities make to the people who depend on them, and I’m really pleased to have been asked to take on a bigger role with new charity Fearless United, which is a cause close to my heart.

I’m honoured to be taking up the role of Deputy Mayor for this municipal year, and look forward to representing our Borough.

Throughout this I remain focused on representing Hollybush and standing up for our residents. I’ll also be doing all I can to help elect Andrew Lewin as our next Labour MP, as it’s clear to me we need Labour in power at a local and national level.’

Lynn Chesterman will continue to serve Welwyn Hatfield as Deputy Mayor for the new municipal year.

Councillor Max Holloway, Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Labour Group said:

‘It has been fantastic working alongside Lynn in Cabinet and as her Deputy Leader for the past 2 years, she has always put our local community first – that’s one of the reasons she’s such a respected local Councillor.

Lynn will be a fantastic Deputy Mayor for our Borough, and I’m pleased that her years of civic service are being recognised in this way. I also wish Lynn every success in developing her charity work and will do all I can to support.

I’m excited to serve as Leader of the Labour Group, and while these are certainly big shoes to fill, we have a brilliant group of local Councillors who are ready to get stuck in and put the community at the heart of everything we do, delivering the healthier, cleaner and greener borough that our residents want to see.’
